This workshop will address the processes of continued skill development that occur as a monitor masters and moves beyond the basic concepts of GCP and core competencies of monitoring.

We will begin with a discussion of basic GCP concepts and an interactive group exercise designed to define and characterize core competencies associated with these basic concepts of GCP.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:

  • Discuss at least three basic GCP concepts and their corresponding core competencies

  • Identify at least three technical skills typically associated with an advanced monitor

  • Identify at least three non-technical (soft) skills associated with an advanced monitor

Trainers

LaChelle Arredondo, PhD, is currently a Clinical Manager, Surgical IOL with Alcon Research, Ltd.  She received her PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University and holds a BS in Life Science from the University of Missouri.  Dr. Arredondo has experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry in several therapeutic areas, including ophthalmology, oncology, and cardiology. Her clinical research experience includes project management, monitoring, medical writing, and training.  She serves as Adjunct Faculty for the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and is a member of the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (RAPS).

Tiffany McGinnis, CCRA, has been involved in the clinical research area since 1998 in various capacities, and most recently has been working as a Senior CRA/Lead CRA for Alcon Research in Fort Worth TX, leading a large phase 3 drug study.  She has worked as a regional home based monitor for a large pharmaceutical corporation and also has several years of CRO experience, in addition to her current role.  Her therapeutic area experience includes Ophthalmology, Cardiology, CNS, Peripheral Vascular Systems, Diagnostic Imaging, Women's Health, Anti-Infectives, Hematology, Urology, and Orthopedics and she has worked in both drugs and devices.

Association of Clinical Research Professionals

The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) provides 6.0 continuing education credits for the completion of this educational activity with the completion of the evaluation form.  Only claim those credits that are actually earned. Continuing Pharmacy Education

The Association of Clinical Research Professionals is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE Universal Program Number 234-000-07-102-L04-P has been assigned to this program. This program provides 6.0 contact hours of continuing education credit. A statement of credit will be available upon completion of the workshop. Each participant must submit a completed evaluation form at the end of the program to receive a Continuing Education Statement of credit. Partial credit will not be awarded.
