Becoming a member of the Tulsa Chapter is easy as 1-2-3. Annual membership dues are $20. If you have not paid your annual dues, please send your check or money order payable to "Tulsa ACRP Chapter" to the Treasurer: Sally Brown, 27242 E. 12th Street, Catoosa, OK 74015. For your convenience, invoices and receipts for Chapter dues will be provided at each meeting.
Tulsa ACRP Chapter History
Now is a good time to give a little history about our local ACRP chapter. Ivette Farmer, MD, MPH was given the immense challenge of starting a local chapter back in July 2000 by her employer at that time, Dr. Ralph W. Richter, Clinical Pharmaceutical Trials, Inc. She graciously took on that challenge with all the gusto of a worker bee. She was in touch with Pat Morgan at ACRP and received a list of the current members of ACRP in this area. She contacted those on the list to see if there was a real interest in beginning a local chapter. She was pleasantly surprised at the response. Ivette provided her e-mail and fax to any one who was interested in supporting a chapter. A date was soon scheduled to meet everyone who had voiced an interest in participating in a chapter.
Through the hard work and collaboration with Angie Pickens, Ivette arranged the first Tulsa ACRP chapter meeting on October 23, 2000. It was then that Ivette Farmer was voted the first president of the chapter and Angie Pickens was voted the secretary/treasurer. The first step in the continuing growth of the chapter was completed. Everyone who attended the meeting was excited and anxious to begin work. The meeting was held in the Health science building at St. John's. The purpose and structure of the chapter was discussed. The standard bylaws were adopted for the chapter. Lots of ideas were discussed about a web site, educational opportunities, how to publicize the chapter, committees, and newsletters.
Incorporation of the chapter was essential and work began on making that happen. There was a change in the bylaws at the 12-14-2000 meeting. (See attachment of current bylaws) The decision was made to split the secretary/treasurer into two positions. On 3-13-01 the chapter elected Joy Valentino Secretary and Angie Pickens Treasurer. The Tulsa Chapter hosted their first CCRC prep course on February 2, 2001 and the Exam on 3-31-01. Dr. Ralph W. Richter graciously sponsored the room and refreshments for both of these events. Once again the chapter will host the fall CRC/CRA review and exams in September 2002.
Ivette Farmer did a lot of work behind the scenes before the first meeting took place. A lot of phone calls, letters and organization were required before the chapter began to take shape. We are grateful for her dedicated work.
On July 19, 2001 the Tulsa ACRP Chapter became incorporated and now the challenge is to build, grow and be an integral part of the research community. The current chapter officers were elected at the December 2001 meeting. We thank all of your for your full support for the chapter and its officers. Thank You.
